Abstract

Our eyes are an intriguing source of information about our interests, goals and well-being, and at the same time a very natural device for interaction. This talk will discuss challenges in harnessing eye movement analysis for ubiquitous computing. I will also present ongoing research into context inference from eye movement, and advances in gaze-based interaction.

About Hans Gellersen

I have been active in the ubiquitous computing research community for over 15 years, initially as director of the TecO research group at the University of Karlsruhe, and since 2001 in my current position as Professor for Interactive Systems at Lancaster University. In 1999, I initiated the Handheld und Ubiquitous Computing conference, which has since been shortened to "Ubicomp" and become established as the premier conference in the field. Further professional service include program co-chair of Pervasive 2005, ECSCW 2005 and AmI-07; general co-chair of TEI 2008; editor of Springer/ACM Personal and Ubiquitous Computing; and editorial board of IEEE Pervasive Computing. In 2007, I chaired an international evaluation of Computer Science in Finland 2001-2006.
